"Mommy, can we make never worry chicken curry for dinner?" asked Ved. "Never worry chicken curry? what is that? I asked, slightly amused at the name. "Wait right here, Mommy! I have the recipe for it" , exclaimed Ved, as he dashed upstairs. He resurfaced in a couple of minutes with a large hard covered children's book in hand. "See? right here, never worry chicken curry" said Ved, as he pointed to the recipe in the book. I quickly browsed through the recipe to make sure that I had all the ingredients before I agreed to take this one on. "Okay", I said, "let's make it."
"Can I help?" asked Ved in his little voice? The recipe seemed pretty straightforward, so, I decided, why not get Ved involved? He's five and old enough to be mommy's little helper. I defrosted some chicken, and gathered the rest of the ingredients-onions, cooking oil, curry powder and others. "Why don't you start reading the instructions, Ved?", I suggested.
So he did-"Chop one large onion, heat oil in the pan and saute onions until light brown........What's saute, mommy?" "Let me show you, I said, " Why don't you go get your step stool so you can see how I saute and then you can give it a try?" Ved got his step stool and observed me. "Its important to make sure you don't touch the pan, coz its hot" I said to Ved, as I passed the spatula to him. He cautiously stirred the onions with the wooden spatula. "Now you can tell your friends that you know how to saute", I smiled. "Yeeeees..." he laughed out loud, "I want to tell Yugo and Aadvik tomorrow!". I thought to myself, "Can't believe, he's sauteing already!"
I finished up the rest of the curry and served it over warm rice to Ved. "Never worry chicken curry...Yuuuuum!", exclaimed Ved, proud of his new accomplishment.
